Small Business Endorses Steve Oelrich in Senate
District 14
TALLAHASSEE, Aug. 22, 2006 – The National
Federation of Independent Business, Florida’s
leading small-business advocacy group, today
announced its endorsement of Steve Oelrich for the
open seat in Senate District 14. Oelrich, who has
served as Alachua County sheriff for 14 years, has
demonstrated his commitment to small-business
principles, including keeping taxes low and
controlling spending.
“Steve Oelrich is a recognized community leader
who has earned the backing of Florida
entrepreneurs and their employees in Senate
District 14,” NFIB/Florida State Director Allen
Douglas said. “Steve will pursue
pro–small-business policies in Tallahassee that
spur job creation and investment in his district
and across Florida.”
“Small businesses make up the backbone of our
local economy here in North Central Florida,”
Oelrich said. “As a former small-business owner, I
am honored by the support of NFIB and its members.
While in the Senate, I will work hard to eliminate
unnecessary and wasteful spending and red tape
that hurts our local businesses.”
NFIB’s endorsement is a key one for Oelrich.
Small-business owners and their employees vote in
high numbers and are known for actively recruiting
friends, family members and acquaintances to go to
the polls. NFIB has pledged to Oelrich that it
will activate its grassroots network on his
behalf.
Senate District 14 encompasses Alachua, Bradford,
Columbia, Gilchrist, Levy, Marion, Putnam and
Union counties. Florida’s primary will be held
Sept. 5, and the general election is set for Nov.
7.
NFIB’s political support is based on the
candidate’s position and record on small-business
issues. Steve Oelrich’s endorsement comes from the
NFIB/Florida SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise)
Trust, the political action committee for NFIB/Florida’s
membership. The endorsement brings the
considerable grassroots support of Florida’s
small-business owners to the Steve Oelrich
campaign.
